The bike box itself is now oversize
A standard 53×30×8 bike box is 12,720 cubic inches — over the 10,368 in³ Additional Handling trigger the carriers added in January 2026. The box format bike shipping standardized on is now surcharged by default.
E-bike batteries get refused
Lithium batteries above small-pack limits need dangerous-goods handling; many retail counters simply refuse the package, and stripping the battery guts the sale price.
Teardown kills casual sales
Pedals off, bars turned, derailleur padded, fork spaced — an hour with tools at each end, and reassembly risk on arrival that becomes your problem.
